Title:Educational Intervention in the Oral Health Care of Children during the Covid-19 Pandemic in the Ica Region, Peru

Oral Presentation

Abstract

A statement of the problem: The promotion of oral health through educational interventions was slow in the early stages of the pandemic, according to COVID-19, which generated a decrease in oral care. Purpose: To determine the impact of educational intervention on oral health care in children aged 8–10 during the COVID-19 pandemic in the Ica Region. Materials and methods: The latter were a study of community interventions. They included 881 children between the ages of 8 and 10 enrolled in 4 schools in the Ica region who completed both the pretest and the posttest. The students were divided into two groups: the experimental group (781 students) and the control group (100 students). A pretest and post-test were applied to both groups, and the experimental group was exposed to the dimensions: the importance of oral health care, caries and periodontal disease, brushing techniques, and oral hygiene, while the control group received no intervention. Results: It was found that in the experimental group, the pretest and post-test tests were positive in 85.2% and 91.1%, respectively, being statistically significant at p = 0.0001. We observed a positive impact on the dimensions of caries and periodontal disease and brushing techniques in 77.5% and 83.8% of the pretests, improving their level of knowledge by 86.4% and 90.3% Conclusions: There was a positive impact with the educational program aimed at children from 4 educational institutions in the region of Ica, Peru.
